Week Four was the second session with Mrs Smollets Group, once again building on our first weeks designs I split the group into four smaller groups giving each group of students a section of the artwork to design. The students looked at using multiple over laying images with colour and text. They also worked into their designs images that could flow from one part of the overall design to another.

Week Four
Week Four was the second session with Mrs Smollets Group, once again building on our first weeks designs I split the group into four smaller groups giving each group of students a section of the artwork to design. The students looked at using multiple over laying images with colour and text. They also worked into their designs images that could flow from one part of the overall design to another.
Week Three
Week Three meant that I was beginning my second session with Miss Keens group. Building on the work that the students produced from week one, the class split into four smaller groups. Each group had their own section of the artwork to design. During this session I think the students started to understand and realise their own potential and the potential for the project as a whole, this was reflected in the creativity of some of the designs and ideas. A very good session.

This article from the Essex Enquirer last week, confirms that the £35 million pound project has now been given the go ahead. "The centre will house a 50 metre competition size swimming pool, a large sports hall, gym, fitness centre, climbing wall, other facilities include six flood lit five-a-side artificial football pitches, meetinf and function rooms, cafe and car parking"and hopefully artwork by the students of the James Hornsby School!

Week Two
In the second week of the project I was in with Mrs Smollets year 10 group, because I have not worked with this group before it was a case of covering very similar ground to begin with. The project will be designed and painted by these two groups.
The students quickly grasped the basic principles of the project and in no time at all we were brainstorming ideas and rough designs.
Once again working with a mixture of freehand drawing and collaging the students worked extremely well and produced a considerable amount of work from just one session.
Week one
After we assembled a rough collection of ideas on the wipe board the students set about working through individual designs on paper using pencils.
They also began to gather reference materials from magazines and newspapers which they then collaged onto separate sheets. The students worked hard and we achieved quite alot in that first session.
Week One
I started the project with Miss Keen's class which is on a wednesday morning. The school day is broken up into three 100 minute sessions, I must admit that I was initially sceptical about the length of the lesson and feared the students would become bored and restless after an hour or so.
I'm happy to say that this was not the case, The session started by me talking through how and why the project came about, I explained who the project's partners are (Basildon Renaissance, Creative Partnerships, and Nimble Fish) and that the latest two partners in the project are the students, representing The James Hornsby School and myself.
I explained the aims of the project and our objectives we then started to discuss ideas.
The students worked well as a group and contributed lots of ideas during our 'brainstorming' session. we looked at different types of sport, sports men and women and even the types of clothes that they wear.
We spent time working on a wipe board, with students making suggestions and alterations to ideas for a design.
